Hold Drunk Drivers Accountable
We have a social and legal responsibility to one another to drive safely. When an individual decides to ignore this responsibility, others are put at risk. Therefore, if you suspect that a driver is drinking and driving, you should hold them responsible and report them to the authorities.
New Mexico Department of Public Safety’s System: Drunk Busters
The State of New Mexico has created a system called Drunk Busters that allows drivers to quickly report suspected DUI drivers. There are two options: you can either call a toll-free number or enter a cell phone convenience key.
- Toll-Free Hotline: 877-394-4258
- Convenience Key: #394 OR #DWI
What Should You Observe Before Calling Drunk Busters?
It is important to know what information you need to have before calling. In order for you to effectively help the authorities stop drunk drivers, they need clear answers to the following questions.
Questions you will be asked:
- What was the location of the suspected drunk driver? Where did you see him/her? What direction were they headed?
- What is the description of the vehicle? What is the color, make, or model?
- What was the license plate number?
- What was the vehicle doing? Was is swerving, speeding, or driving erratically? What caused you to suspect drunk driving?
- What is you contact information? What is your name and phone number? (Although this information could be helpful to authorities, all calls can remain anonymous).
