Causes of Personal Injuries During the Holidays

What Causes Holiday Accidents?

While the holidays are full of laughter and fun, they can also be dangerous as negligence-based accidents are a common occurrence during the holiday season. A person can suffer injuries in the following accidents:

  • Winter sports incidents. For Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year’s, and other holidays, many families travel to resorts or enjoy local festivities like skating, skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. While fun, these activities can also be quite dangerous, and third parties can be held liable for your damages if their negligence or recklessness contributed to the incident. For instance, if faulty equipment led to your injuries, the product manufacturer or business owner may be liable.
  • Decorating accidents. While decorating, homeowners or hired professionals often climb on rooves and ladders to hang wreaths, lights, and other decorations. Falls from great heights can lead to serious injuries, and a homeowner can be liable if their roof or conditions on their property led to the accident.
  • Fire-related accidents. From cooking accidents to knocked-over candles and faulty decorations, fires are not an uncommon occurrence during the holidays. Burn injuries can require extensive treatment and care, especially if they are more severe and can affect a person’s life permanently.
  • Slips and falls. A lot of different negligent conditions can cause a person to trip or slip and fall during the holidays, including weather conditions, loose flooring, low-hanging or fallen decorations, etc. Property owners can be held liable if they knew about the hazard and failed to warn you of it or correct the issue that led to your injuries.
  • Traffic accidents. Because of drowsiness, alcohol or drug impairment, inexperience, and other negligent actions, traffic accidents are a common occurrence during the holidays.
  • Product defect incidents. Unfortunately, holiday gifts also pose a threat. Toys and other products can be defective and can injure a person, and you can pursue legal action against the manufacturer and/or designer.
